Leak Hunters UK respects your privacy. This notice explains what information we use when you contact us, request or receive a service, or visit this website. You can contact us at info@leakhunters.co.uk or +44 3335 772 552.
Information we receive
When you make an enquiry or book work, we may receive your name, company name, contact details, property and billing address, details of the leak or other issue, photographs or documents you send, and information needed to arrange the visit. For completed work, we may keep appointment notes, findings, reports, invoices and payment records. Please avoid sending payment card details or other sensitive information through the website enquiry form.
Information usually comes from you. Sometimes an agent, landlord, tenant, insurer, property manager or another person arranging the work supplies contact or property details on your behalf.
When you browse the site, our server receives technical information needed to deliver and protect it, such as your IP address, request time, requested page, browser details and error information. Optional analytics are described below.
Why we use information
| Purpose | UK GDPR lawful basis |
|---|---|
| Respond to enquiries, prepare quotations and arrange requested work. | Steps taken at your request before a contract, or our legitimate interest in handling business enquiries. |
| Carry out services, communicate about appointments and provide reports. | Performance of a contract, or our legitimate interest in coordinating work involving third-party contacts. |
| Issue invoices, maintain accounts and meet tax or other legal duties. | Legal obligation, and where relevant performance of a contract. |
| Protect the website, investigate faults and prevent abuse. | Our legitimate interest in maintaining a secure, working service. |
| Run optional website analytics. | Your consent. You can change your choice at any time. |
Where we rely on legitimate interests, these are to respond to enquiries, coordinate the requested service, safeguard our systems and maintain appropriate business records. You do not have to provide information for a general visit to the site. If you want a quotation or service, we need enough information to contact you and assess the work.
Who may receive information
We do not sell customer contact details. We may use hosting, email, IT, accounting and payment providers to operate the business. Where needed to fulfil your request, relevant information may also be shared with engineers, subcontractors, other tradespeople you agree to involve, an insurer or property representative, and professional advisers. We may disclose information where required by law or to establish or defend a legal claim.
If you permit Analytics, Google Analytics 4 and Ahrefs Web Analytics receive website usage information as described below. Their services may involve processing outside the UK; any applicable international transfers should be handled under appropriate safeguards. Please contact us for details relevant to your information.
Cookies and similar storage
Cookies are small browser files; local storage is a related way to remember settings on your device. Essential storage can be used without an optional analytics choice. We do not treat continued browsing as consent. The site loads GA4 and Ahrefs Web Analytics only if you select Analytics in the banner.
| Technology | Purpose and duration | Choice |
|---|---|---|
lh-cookie-preferences-v2 (local storage) | Remembers your Analytics and Advertising choices for 180 days. | Necessary to remember your selection. |
Google Analytics 4: _ga and _ga_* | Measures visits and sessions. Google lists a default expiry of up to two years, subject to browser limits and site settings. | Analytics only. |
| Ahrefs Web Analytics | Reports aggregate visits and interactions. Ahrefs says its default web analytics script does not set cookies or persistent visitor identifiers. | Analytics only. |
Our banner also offers an Advertising choice for future advertising measurement. No Google Ads tag was present in the site code when this notice was updated. If we add one, we will update this notice to explain its cookies, purposes and providers before enabling it. Choosing Advertising now does not by itself load an Ads tag.
You can select Cookie settings at any time, including after making a choice. Withdrawing Analytics stops further analytics loading on the next page load and the site attempts to remove its first-party analytics cookies. Information already received by a provider is subject to that provider’s retention practices. You can also clear site data in your browser.
Our contact form uses Google reCAPTCHA v3 to help prevent spam and abuse. Google may receive technical information when that feature is used. See Google’s Privacy Policy. For more about the analytics providers, see Google Analytics cookie information and Ahrefs Web Analytics information.
How long we keep information
We keep enquiries for as long as needed to respond and follow up appropriately. Service reports and related correspondence may be retained to refer back to previous investigations, deal with complaints or insurance matters, and establish or defend claims. Invoices and accounting records are retained for the period required by applicable tax and accounting rules. Server logs are kept only as long as needed for security and troubleshooting. We review records and remove them when they are no longer needed for these purposes.
Security and your rights
We use access controls and reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect information. No internet transmission is completely risk-free. We do not make decisions about you solely by automated means that have legal or similarly significant effects.
Depending on the circumstances, you may ask to access or correct your information, request its deletion or restriction, object to processing based on legitimate interests, or request a copy in a portable format. You can withdraw consent to optional analytics through Cookie settings without affecting processing that took place before withdrawal. To exercise a right, email info@leakhunters.co.uk.
Your right to object: you may object to processing based on our legitimate interests by contacting us. We will consider your request and explain any compelling grounds or legal requirements that apply.
If you have concerns, please contact us first. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO), the UK data protection regulator.
